Yolanda Saldívar, the woman serving a life sentence for the 1995 murder of Tejano music icon Selena Quintanilla, has been denied parole, according to the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles.
Texas Department of Criminal Justice online records indicate Saldívar, 64, petitioned for parole for the very first time this week.
She will not be eligible for parole review again for another five years, which is in March 2030. The reason given for the denial by the board was the nature of the offense and the interest of public safety.
Quintanilla’s family released a statement via Instagram in support of the decision Thursday. They thanked Selena’s fans for their support through the years and remain committed to preserving Selena’s legacy.
